Embracing Grace and Kicking Out Resentment

Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility? Do you feel like you’re carrying the world’s weight on your shoulders, with no end in sight? Do you ever feel like if you don’t do it, no one else will?  Trust me, you’re not alone.

I’ve found myself at times wrestling with feelings of resentment. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking, “Why do I have to do everything? Why am I the only one who notices what needs to be done?” Sound familiar?

Instead of wallowing in self-pity or frustration, I have found it far more productive to get curious about my feelings of resentment. What is really going on beneath the surface?

What I often discover, is that rather than being a terrible unloving human being,  I need validation and a little self-love. Acknowledging my feelings and reminding myself of the choices I’ve made—like choosing to homeschool my children—is incredibly empowering.

Rather than playing the victim, celebrating my victories, no matter how small, and recognizing the efforts I make each day shifts my perspective from one of negativity to one of gratitude and motivation.

Even better I feel so much peace when I turn to Heavenly Father for guidance and strength. Sometimes it is a brief moment where I seek to connect with heaven in my heart.  There I find comfort and clarity knowing that I’m not alone in this journey. The Atonement of Jesus Christ provides me with the strength I need to keep moving forward with faith.

I’ve also learned the value of self-care. Taking short breaks to engage in activities that bring me joy—like walking in nature, journaling, or playing music—recharges my spirit and reminds me that I am more than just a homeschooling parent. I am a whole, multifaceted individual deserving of love and care.

So, to all my fellow homeschoolers out there, I want you to know that you’re doing an amazing job. And on those days when the weight of responsibility feels too heavy, remember to be kind to yourself. You are not alone, and you are loved more than you know. With God’s grace, a little self-compassion, and opening up to the abundance around us, we can kick out resentment and find joy in our journey.
